Mind Your Business

Don’t watch the noise in the market; watch the sale.

Don’t watch the noise in the market watch the sale! If you have ever been to a farmers’ market or a Caribbean market on a good day; it can be quite noisy. You will hear vendors shouting slogans and call to actions about their produce. You will hear shoppers negotiating prices; commenting on the perceived worth of produce and warning that the produce better be sweet, good, tasty, fresh or else. The hustle and bustle of the market will pull you in and it is so easy to be distracted by all that is happening.

Pay attention to the sale; not the noise of the market.

If we apply this proverb to our lives; we can be guided by the same principle: don’t be distracted by all that is happening in the world; pay attention to what is in front of you and mind your business. Your attention is always being sought by one thing or another. From screen time, time with family, what’s happening in the news; the latest celebrity or family gossip; a all whole host of things. Your attention is a precious currency; you get to decide what matters to you and what deserves your attention and by extension your energy.

Your attention is a precious currency.

In the pursuit of your purpose, your goals and dreams; the world will have plenty to say. Your family, friends and loved ones will all have their opinions. Remember this; your dream was given to only you. It wasn’t shared via a conference call. It is is up to you to pursue those dreams without the approval and acceptance of your friends; family, inner-circle and network. So get comfortable with that knowledge and make peace with the fact that everyone will not understand; everyone cannot go with you; everyone will not like or accept your dreams; everyone will have an opinion. Get used to that, carry on just the same and make your dreams a reality!

You determine what your success looks like.

Don’t judge your success based on what is going around you!

Another point to remember: don’t judge your success based on what is going on around you. It is tempting to think others in the market are doing well because of all the noise. If there is no noise at your stall then you aren’t doing well. That is simply not true; it is the sale that matters. So don’t be disheartened by the apparent success of other people. Focus on achieving your own success; mind your own business and keep minding that. Remember in the market; it is easy to be misled by the noise. It is easy to believe transactions are happening at every turn. The noise is just that – noise; so your absolute focus and effort actually determine your success. On your journey through this thing called life; remember that your success should be defined by you; if it doesn’t look like everything else you see around you; it’s ok!

You’re in the market to make a sale not make noise. So don’t watch the noise in the market; watch the Sale!!
